Where is your city?

Americas, WI

Wisconsin-Dells-33695

What’s the cheapest way to enjoy this city at night?

For a small-town shoobie trap in the Midwestern states, perhaps the best I can think of is people-watching along Broadway downtown. That, and browsing some of the fascinating(?!) T-shirt and gift shops, even if the selection tends to the campy and kitschy.

What’s your favorite restaurant here? What’s so special about it?

“Pizza Pub, out on Dells Parkway by Noah’s Ark waterpark. The pizzas are rather exceptionally done, especially so the Chicago-model deep-dish such.

And do try their midday buffet at least once; the chicken-pasta soup on their salad bar is especially worthwhile, as if the pizza and spaghetti weren’t good enough.”

What’s your favorite thing to do on a warm Sunday morning in this city?

Just walking around the downtown and attempting people-watching at an early hour, before any of the decent cafes open. Or, better still, having the all-you-can-eat breakfast at Paul Bunyan’s (not a buffet, mind you, but still rather legendary in its own right, attracting long queues at the heighth of season waiting for seating).

What were some of the hidden gems in that city? Why?

Obviously they would have to be the “old-school” motels and resorts of that place. Such family-run hosteleries, not chain-affiliated, have rooms that are just as good as the waterparkl resorts, and with value for money besides. It may take some looking around, but I just hope you get something memorable as well as cost-efficient.

Anything else you want to add?

“My own Tumblog is basically a fanfic such, seeking to keep alive the Funsensically Funtastic spirit of obscure Hanna-Barbera characters from the Saturday mornings of our youth wasted before the TV (especially such whose funsensical potential was emasculated by activist and network pressure from the early 1970’s on).

On said blog, Dells-related content can be discerned at http://sohannabarberaesque.tumblr.com/search/Wisconsin+Dells when you have the time. (And take especial note of where I bring in Crazy Claws as a standup-comedy observer of the Waterpark Capital of the World; such all starting with a whimsical little musing of what it would be like for Crazy Claws to guide the Original Wisconsin Ducks tour, itself as famous for the corny narration as for the amphibious nature thereof. And it just took off from there–with more likely.)”

Where is your city?

Americas

What’s the cheapest way to enjoy this city at night?

“New York is such a fun city to visit and you don’t need a huge budget to enjoy it!

For example, if you are visiting in the summer, there are movies under the stars events for free at several locations, including parks, piers and beaches! Check out the official NYC Parks site for schedules: http://www.nycgovparks.org/events/free_summer_movies

Remember that Manhattan is a walk-able city. Your best sites are going to be experience just by walking and exploring the city on foot!” – USA Event Management Company

What’s your favorite restaurant here? What’s so special about it?

My favorite restaurant is probably cafe espanol in the west village! They serve great tapas, have amazing sangria (and happy hour specials) and wonderful service. In the summer months you can also enjoy dining in their outdoor garden – a rare find in New York City!

What’s your favorite thing to do on a warm Sunday morning in this city?

The best think to do on a warm Sunday morning in Manhattan is to take a walk along the beautiful Hudson River Park Walk. If you like to bike, there is a 5 mile bike path and many activities along the way!

What were some of the hidden gems in that city? Why?

NYC is so dynamic, with infinite things to do and see – and these constantly change! If you are traveling with kids, be sure to take them to the Central Park zoo where they can see penguins and polar bears right in the heart of the city (amazing surprise).  If you are traveling as a couple or solo, be sure to take an evening and explore the west village – there are many great restaurants, bars and comedy clubs. Enjoy sitting outdoors in the summer over a drink and just people watch!

Where is your city?

Asia

What’s the cheapest way to enjoy this city at night?

A walk along the Wellington waterfront after dark! It’s free and you can see all the glimmering lights of Upper Hutt across the harbour. Otherwise the Night Market on Cuba Street on a Friday night is a good way to soak up the multicultural atmosphere of Wellington.

What’s your favorite restaurant here? What’s so special about it?

Ombra! It’s a Venetian Barcaro that’s on the coolest little street in New Zealand, Cuba Street. Ombra’s speciality is tapas. Everything on the menu is beyond delicious, though the venison meatballs are definitely something else!

What’s your favorite thing to do on a warm Sunday morning in this city?

Head to the markets on the waterfront of course! You can pick up exotic fruit and veg here for super cheap, plus there’s food trucks galore with food from almost every nation over the world! Once you’re nice and full, you can wander down to Oriental bay to enjoy a food coma on this beautiful manmade beach. If you’re up for it, you can then walk the food off by trekking 20 minutes to the top of Mount Victoria. You can experience the beautiful 360 degree views of windy Wellington from here and on a sunny day, there’s nothing better!

What were some of the hidden gems in that city? Why?

If you want to experience the best coffee New Zealand has to offer, definitely head to Hangar on Dixon st. This is the flagship store of the coffee roasters Flight and they do these awesome little coffee testers. They’ll serve you an espresso, a cold drip and a flat white on a cute little wooden tray with some sparkling water as a palette cleanser. The food is also exceptional! Other than that, head to a Chef’s Palette outlet (there’s a few over the city) if you want to eat like a local. For $6NZD you’ll get a huge helping of noodles, vegies and meat with one of their delicious homemade sauces. I’d recommend the honey soy and garlic chicken one. Besides that, the Botanical Gardens has a nice spot down near Tinakori rd if you want to hang out with a picnic in the sun!

Anything else you want to add?

Wellington is my favourite little city in NZ and there’s tonnes of other amazing places to check out!

Where is your city?

Australia

What’s the cheapest way to enjoy this city at night?

Just go for a walk around town! Start in Chinatown for a cheap bite, there’s so much on offer, I cannot even tell you where to start, and it’s all pretty cheap! Finish off with a nitrogen icecream at N2 Gelato which is also located in the Chinatown/Haymarket area. For cheap souvenirs head to Paddy’s Market, again, in the same area. Then make your way down to the water to Darling Harbour where you can enjoy free fireworks which starts from 8.30pm on most Saturdays. So romantic! Afterwards walk along the water and cross over to the Circular Quay area where you can see the illuminated Harbour Bridge and the world-famous Opera House. You can walk all the way to Mrs Macquaries Point from which you will have the best views of the skyline, the harbour, the Bridge and the Opera House.

What’s your favorite restaurant here? What’s so special about it?

My favourite restaurant in Sydney, one that I would always pick for visitors to the city, is the O Bar which is a revolving restaurant on top of one of the tallest buildings in the city. It takes around 90mins for the restaurant to make a complete turn, plenty of time to dine and enjoy the views. If you time it well, you get to see Sydney from its prettiest site, when the sun sets in the west. Then the lights will come on, so romantic! Oh, besides, the food is outstanding and first-class, fresh, modern and absolutely delicious.

What’s your favorite thing to do on a warm Sunday morning in this city?

Sydney is the place where you want to be on warm Sunday mornings, because you can go to the beach for a quick swim, or a surf. This is what most Sydneysiders will do. If the weather is not warm enough, which does happen!, just settle in a chair in one of the cafes along the many Sydney beaches for a nice brunch and a good cup of coffee. Sydneysiders love their food and their coffees!

What were some of the hidden gems in that city? Why?

Not many tourists would know that Newtown is the best place to be for an eclectic mix of fashion, quirky things, cool cafes and lots of street art. For something different, there is the Australiana village on the outskirts which is a collection of old cottages found in the region, re-arranged into an authentic village which also doubles as a backdrop for historic TV shows. Speaking of TV, Bare Island is occupied by a historic fort and is in a very dramatic location which was used for Mission Impossible II. Well worth a visit!

Where is your city?

Asia

What’s the cheapest way to enjoy this city at night?

At night, we only stayed at the hotel  and since there is a hot spring area a guest can simply enjoy the soothing and relaxing warm/hot waters of the area. Either indoor/outdoor, it’s definitely the cheapest (upon payment of the tour, that is).

What’s your favorite restaurant here? What’s so special about it?

So far, my favorite restaurant is a Yakiniku buffet restaurant. Yakiniku is basically barbecue or grilling, and what you do there is to choose which meat/s you will cook and savor afterwards.

What’s your favorite thing to do on a warm Sunday morning in this city?

On a warm Sunday morning, walking around the neighborhood is a wonderful idea. With the cold weather, you can enjoy the cool wind blowing on you as you take a stroll.

What were some of the hidden gems in that city? Why?

There is a golden statue located around the mountain range, along with a beautiful lake. These two are what make Sendai a well-known tourist spot.
